Walter Cardenas Salinas, 45, of Danbury, was killed around 8:38 a.m. when a very large tree fell on the passenger side of the 2014 Dodge Ram truck he was riding in on Padanaram Road, said Danbury Police Det. Lt. Mark Williams. Salinas was the passenger at the time of the incident.

The vehicle became engulfed in flames after the falling tree brought down live wires.

The driver of the vehicle, Edgar Nugra, stated that he could see the tree as it fell toward his vehicle but he had no time to react before the tree struck the top of his vehicle, Williams said.

The Danbury Police Department is continuing to investigate the collision and is asking anyone who might have witnessed or has information regarding the collision to contact Sgt. Rory DeRocco at 203-797-2157.
